Options for Homes Ecuador began operations in April 2015. In Ecuador, there is a huge deficit in the provision of social and popular housing due largely to high housing prices and the difficulty of accessing credit. The Ecuadorian government is supportive of the help of the private sector to reduce the deficit and appreciates the benefits of the Options model. Options has been in negotiations with the Ecuadorian Ministry of Housing which owns land allocated for cost-effective housing. Options is discussing an opportunity for its first project in the San Carlos area, north of Quito. The land has an area of 13,500 m2 and is suitable for approximately 400 housing units.

Options for Homes Ecuador is working towards securing land for their first development.

Freddy A. Vásquez, the current General Director of Options for Homes Ecuador, is a Commercial Engineer with a Bachelor’s Degree in business. For over 15 years he was a university professor at several universities in Quito, mainly in the subjects of strategy, marketing and sales. He has held management and leadership positions in several private companies and has developed several his own businesses. Concerned about social issues, Vásquez has supported several projects, both state, and private, and has participated in the promotion of rural housing. His goal is to contribute to the development of social and affordable housing in Ecuador, using the Options model, which he learned about on one of his trips to Toronto.
